High Drama on the Rally Stage: A Year of Heart-Stopping Moments

My 2024 rally season kicked off with a bang at WRC Rally Croatia, the largest event I've ever attended.  After countless trips to Croatia, I finally had the chance to experience the thrill of the world's top rally drivers in action.

The energy was electric from the very start. At the shakedown stage, I was awestruck by the sheer power and speed of the WRC1 and WRC2 cars as they roared past.

Despite being just a practice run, the drivers displayed an intensity that was undeniable.

And then, the unexpected happened: Car zero lost control and ended up on its roof right in front of me.

Of course, the fans were eager to help!

Busted car, bruised ego!

This was just a taste of the high drama that would unfold throughout the year.

One of my photography goals for Croatia was to master the art of long-exposure panning. Being a tarmac rally, the dust and gravel were gone and capturing the speed and motion of the cars became a challenge.

Long shutter speeds were the key, transforming even the slowest cars into a blur of motion.

Back in Canada, I put my these skills to immediate use. The extra element of motion added an extra layer of drama to the already thrilling spectacle of rally cars pushing the limits.

Witnessing cars seemingly defy gravity as they corner at breakneck speeds is a heart-stopping experience. These drivers thrive on adrenaline!

My final event of the year, the Rally of the Tall Pines, provided one last opportunity to capture the raw speed and excitement of rally racing. With a diverse field of Canadian, American, and Scottish teams, the action was non-stop.

And then, the unexpected happened again:
Another rally ended up on its roof right in front of me.

Crew OK!

The 2025 rally season promises more heart-stopping action, breathtaking speeds, and unforgettable memories. I can't wait to get back on the road and capture the magic of these incredible machines and the talented drivers who push them to their limits.
