Mid-Summer Wrap-up: RallyCross and Discover Ontario:

This summer has delivered an absolute feast of grassroots motorsport in Ontario, starting off at KWRC Rallycross #3 on July 11th. 

It was a packed house with 33 entries, where changing track conditions kept everyone guessing; organizer Mark Gonsalves had to make last-minute layout tweaks to dodge standing water from pre-event rains, but as the sun came out, the surface packed down into a hard, fast groove. 

I had the absolute pleasure of driving Gord Olmstead’s Mazda3, alternating seat time as driver and passenger to swap feedback, shave down lap times, and soak in a fantastic day—a huge thanks to Gord for the seat time!

It was also great to finally cross paths with Tiago, who runs the Instagram account RallyWord. He’s been making a real mark co-driving across North America while making steady, impressive gains in our KWRC series with every event he enters.  

Congratulations to Darin Mayes taking a solid victory over AJ and Storme!

The momentum carried straight into the next day’s MLRC Rallycross, where 19 entries blew through their morning runs smoothly.

In total, teams were rewarded with a total of 9 runs throughout the day.  Baked under intense heat, the freshly packed dirt hardened to near-asphalt conditions—punctuated by the howl of squealing tires and glowing praise over the radio from MLRC marshals impressed by the top teams’ driving.

In the end, Darin wrapped up the weekend by taking another victory over Storme Wroblewski and Jason Ronza.

Lastly, let's circle back and take a moment to recall the Toronto Autosport Club’s Discover Ontario Rally from June.

This navigational rally may have seen a smaller field, but it delivered a stellar route headlined by incredible navigational trickery—most notably a genuinely massive tulip-style map that kept navigators on their toes.
